Knights or royal families never lived at Saaleck Castle. Since the 11th/12th century, when it was built, this castle had always been the residence of noble dukes or officials, even the prince abbot himself resided here during the summer or in the grape-picking season. Nevertheless, many legends tell about emperors, kings or noble damsels. All of these stories have one thing in common: they tell about the Saaleck wine, which can be traced back to the year 777. So it’s worth to dig a bit deeper into the wine matter and the past.
