Must-see sights in Durham City include the magnificent Gothic Cathedral and nearby Durham Castle. An 18-minute drive from Hamsteels Hall, the fascinating open-air museum Beamish is a great place to spend the day soaking up living history.

Ideal location to explore the area
One of the things guests love about Hamsteels Hall is the fact that it provides an excellent base from which to explore this part of the country. The nearest village, Langley Park, offers several shops and eateries and there are also major supermarkets in the area which are ideal when it's time to stock up the self-catering kitchen. In terms of sight-seeing, guests are really spoilt for choice; the historic cities of Durham and Newcastle are easily reached by car and other popular sights include Hadrian's Wall, the Metro Shopping Centre and Diggerland. For those who would rather avoid the car during their stay, there are plenty of walks and trails through the breathtaking scenery.
