Valderrobles is a Gothic town located in the Matarraña Mountains. The arid countryside is mountainous, rugged, and the villages fortified with castles, churches, hermitages and surrounded by great natural beauty. Fonda la Plaza is located along the Matarraña River and is among the oldest hostals in Europe. The hostal is quiet, clean, comfortable and the rooms have bountiful hot water. Under new management, the owner and staff are very accommodating, friendly and go out of their way to be of assistance. Whether looking for a weekend hideaway, or to hike/bike along the Via Verde (these are nature paths where there once were train tracks and the route connects various towns in the Sierra). Breakfast is included, it is plentiful with pan con tomate (country toast rubbed with tomato and sprinkled with olive oil), Spanish ham, fruit, etc. You awake rested to start off on a day of adventure and culinary discovery. A wonderful and restful experience.
